An amazing 10,000 strong crowd descended on Galway Bay to welcome the Volvo Ocean Race convoy.
An unprecedented 500 boats arrived in the bay, which were treated to a view of bonfires, revellers and a generally festive atmosphere.
Green Dragon, the Irish-Chinese representative in the world-famous race, finished in 3rd place in this recent leg, behind the Ericsson and Puma.
On board the Green Dragon were 3 Irish sailors; Ian Moore, Justin Slattery and Damian Foxall. “It’s unbelievable. Phenomenal,” Moore said, “this is pretty special. Being an Irishman on an Irish boat finishing in an Irish port- I don’t think anyone will ever forget this.”
