Dublin City Places to Visit

Kilmainham Gaol

Things to Do in Dublin
There is plenty to do in Ireland beyond admiring historic sites. This holds especially true for drive with a hire car, since many of the outdoor activities require getting outside of city limits. Fishing, brewery or distillery visits, golfing and beach-going are all on the agenda.

Guinness Brewery
The Guinness Brewery located at James Gate in Dublin 8 is something that most people visit when they come to Dublin. The famous black stuff has been brewed in Dublin since 1759 when Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 £45 a year lease. The brewery features a world class visitor centre offering the history and culture of Guinness, tips on crafting the perfect pint and also cooking suggestion on how to incorporate Guinness into your food. The tour ends with a pint of stout in the Gravity bar overlooking Dublin City. The views on a clear day are amazing.

Beaches
There are several beaches within a short drive of Dublin City. Swimming is not for the faint of heart, but these are nice places to enjoy the scenery and maybe a picnic lunch. Dún Laoghaire is about 11 kilometres outside of town, and it has a promenade for seaside strolls. Other beaches include Portmarnock (11 kilometres), Dollymount (5 kilometres), Howth (15 kilometres) and Sutton (11 kilometres).

Golfing
Ireland is one of the world’s most sought-after golfing destinations. The great news for visitors with car hire in Dublin City is that one out of four Irish courses is within an hour’s drive. St Margaret’s Golf and Country Club, Portmarnock Golf Club and Elm Park Golf and Sports Club are among the best.
