If you are planning to explore County Mayo, it is best to set out with a hire car. There is plenty of scenery to admire in County Mayo, but those without a vehicle at their disposal may have trouble sorting the transportation needs. From there you can see Croagh Patrick, the legendary mountain from which St Patrick banished all the snakes from Ireland. In County Mayo, it’s also easy to drive to Knock, where a famous shrine commemorates an apparition of the Virgin Mary.

 

County Mayo doesn’t receive nearly as many tourists as its neighbours, which adds to its appeal. Guidebooks and brochures may undersell the region, but associates at car hire depots in Ireland are happy to supply advice, maps and relevant resources.
